Tempered glass, textured on the working side, with four rubber dots underneath so it does not slide. Two sizes: eight inches by eleven, or eleven by fifteen. Ours is on it by default; send theirs instead, with their blessing, and put a line above and a line below. Hand wash recommended, so it never disappears into a dishwasher rack for a week. It comes out for the onions and goes back on the counter, and it is the last thing they look at before they start cooking for you.
